Studio or Outdoor Holiday Portraits in Palm Beach Gardens: Which Is Right for Your Family?

The holidays are one of my favorite times of year to photograph families, couples, and pets. One of the first questions clients ask me is whether they should have their holiday portraits taken in the studio or outdoors. Both can be beautiful. Here is how I help families in Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter, and across South Florida choose the setting that fits them best.

Holiday Portraits in the Studio

A studio session gives you complete control and a relaxed, comfortable experience for everyone.

  • Any time of day, even evenings: in the studio we can photograph at any hour. Many families love to come after work, and even if we start at 6:00 or 6:30 in the evening, when it is already dark outside, the light inside is perfect.

  • No weather worries: no wind, humidity, or heat, so hair and makeup stay polished from the first frame to the last.

  • Comfortable for light-colored eyes: people with light eyes often squint or close their eyes in bright sunlight. Studio lighting is soft and flattering.

  • Calm for pets and children: depending on their personality, dogs and little ones can get distracted outside. The studio is quiet, familiar, and free of distractions.

  • Festive sets and variety: choose a snowy winter wonderland, a cozy Christmas fireplace with the North Pole, a Hanukkah setting, or even a tropical sunset backdrop. Many families choose two or three backgrounds in one session.

Holiday Portraits Outdoors

Outdoor portraits capture the beauty of South Florida, from the beaches to lush parks and elegant neighborhoods.

  • Best light: early morning, or in the afternoon about an hour to an hour and a half before sunset. In November and December the sun sets around 5:30, so afternoon sessions usually begin around 4:00.

  • Plan ahead: because many people are working at that hour, weekend outdoor dates book quickly during the holiday season.

  • The right spot: I select shaded areas and quieter locations with fewer people, which helps pets and children stay focused. I have even photographed a cat outdoors.

Serving Palm Beach Gardens Communities

I welcome families from communities across Palm Beach Gardens and the surrounding area, including Alton, BallenIsles, PGA National, Mirasol, Avenir, Old Palm, and Ibis in West Palm Beach, as well as Jupiter, Tequesta, Juno Beach, North Palm Beach, and Palm Beach. My Palm Beach Gardens studio is a short drive from all of them.

Studio vs. Outdoor Holiday Portrait Q&A

Can we book a holiday session in the evening?

Yes. Studio sessions are available in the evening, so you can come after work, even when it is already dark outside.

When is the best time for outdoor holiday portraits?

Early morning, or about an hour to an hour and a half before sunset. In November and December that is usually around 4:00 in the afternoon.

Can we include our dog or cat?

Absolutely. Pets are part of the family. The studio is often the calmest choice for pets who get easily distracted.

Can we use more than one background?

Yes. In the studio, many families choose two or three holiday sets in one session for more variety.

When should we book our holiday portraits?

As early as possible. Holiday evenings and weekend dates fill quickly between October and December.
